The Alohomora Charm, also known as the Unlocking Spell (Alohomora) is a charm that enables a witch or wizard to unlock a door. It was covered in chapter seven of The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1.
Contrary to popular belief, "Alohomora" does not come from the Hawaiian "aloha", but rather is a West African phrase meaning "friendly to thieves", as stated by J. K. Rowling in a court appearance
